Oreo Cookies

We love Oreo Cookies around here so I thought it would be fun to try making some of our own... although these are a bit different than store bought Oreo Cookies.  I don't know why I've never made cookies from a cake mix before, so easy, and so delicious.

 Oreo Cookies
(Recipe adapted from here.)
Cookie Ingredients:
2 boxes of Devil's Food Cake Mix
4 eggs
2/3 cup oil

Mix together until smooth.
Drop dough by spoonful (Tbsp size) onto a cookie sheet and slightly flatten dough balls.
Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Frosting:
4 oz Cream Cheese
1 Tbsp Butter
1 tsp Vanilla
2 cups Powdered Sugar

Mix until smooth and sandwich between cookies.

*Allowing these to sit in the fridge will give you that Oreo Crunch you may be looking for. We kept ours at room temperature; I like my chocolate soft and smooth.  We also put a touch of green dye in the frosting because my husband's favorite color is green.  This could be a great holiday dessert!  I am thinking red and blue for the Fourth of July. :)

  2. Oh yes, the mint was a very good idea! The husband was very very happy about these.
I learned a few things, making these my first time:
No need to flatten the balls of dough-- they spread out a LOT as they cook. And next time I will make the balls much smaller-- like I said, they spread a LOT. My cookies were huge.
I used this recipe for the filling instead of cream cheese:
    1/2 cup butter softened
    2 cups powdered sugar
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    1 tsp peppermint extract
oh, and some green food coloring
Also, I liked mine in the fridge (or freezer). They still stayed soft.
Wonder how long I have to wait before making these again? Definitely a winner.

  3. Mmm, sounds good, i may have to make them again now! I'm wondering why yours were different though, maybe I cooked mine too long.

  4. I made these again tonight. I rolled smaller dough balls and didn't flatten them, and no they did not flatten like you said yours had. Will you make them again and let me know if you get the same result. You didn't add water to the cake mix did you? I am so curious now as to why ours turned out different. I did try them with mint frosting(I had no cream cheese) and it was delicious.
