I never thought I liked hummus. My husband would to buy it for himself occasionally but I never dared to give it a try. THEN one day, we made our own. We used a combination of many different recipes listed on the web. It was EASY, and I will admit: YUMMY! Now we make it all the time. Even the kids eat it enthusiastically!
This is how we do it:
1 can garbanzo beans/chick peas with the juice somewhat drained out
1 clove of garlic (or more, but if you have leftovers the next day, it's going to be REALLY strong!)
a little lemon juice
a little cumin powder
about 2 Tbsp olive oil (and a tad bit of sesame oil if you have it)
a little salt and pepper
Blend in a food processor, adding a little water and/or some of the juice from the can of beans until you get the consistency that you want.
We like to dip pita bread triangles in our hummus, and sprinkle a little bit of feta cheese on top. Our kids love to dip pretzels in theirs. They will even take some to school for lunch with some apple slices and a drink. Easy lunch!
So glad to have this recipe here, KellyAnne. Now maybe I won't lose it. I must have asked for it at least a half dozen times! One question though... how much is a tad? (tee hee)
ReplyDeleteI see you don't add tahini (sesame paste) which is often added. Sometimes I find that imparts a bitter flavor that people don't like.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, I don't add tahini because I don't keep it on hand. I think adding the "tad bit" of sesame oil makes me feel like it's still there!
